The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates in Ghana. The announcement was made in an official statement on Monday, December 30, 2024. With over 460,000 students across Ghana participated in this year’s examination.

Prior to the release of the results, there were reports of delays attributed to unpaid debts owed by the Ghana government to WAEC. This has since been resolved, allowing the council to finalize the release of the results.

The release of the results came with performances of the students and troubling reports of exam malpractices.

• 4,108 candidates had their subject results cancelled for bringing foreign materials like prepared notes, textbooks and printed materials into the examination halls.
• 483 candidates had their results cancelled after being caught with mobile phones during the exams.
• 781 candidates’ subject results and 209 candidates’ entire results were withheld over various suspected offenses, pending further investigations.
• Also, results from 319 schools have been withheld due to alleged collusion. WAEC is still investigation these cases and will decide whether to release or cancel the affected results.

Also attached to the announcement were the numbers and percentages of candidates in core subjects and the four-year performance statistics for these subjects, presented in table format. The statistics revealed fluctuating trends in performance of candidates in English Language, Social Studies and Integrated Science while performance in Mathematics showed an upward trend over the four-year period.

• Core Mathematics saw a steady improvement, with 66.86% of candidates getting grades A1-C6, up from 62.23% in 2023.
• English Language performance dropped slightly, with 69.5% candidates getting grades A1-C6, compared to 73.11% in 2023.
• Integrated Science recorded a drop, with only 58.77% of candidates getting grades A1-C6, compared to 66.82% in 2023.
• Social Studies also dropped to 71.53% getting grades A1-C6, compared to 76.76% in the previous year.

WAEC expressed its gratitude to the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, security agencies, Heads of School, Supervisors, Invigilators among others for their support.

Students can access their results online at WAEC’s official website, https://ghana.waecdirect.org/. However, you will first need to buy a WASSCE results checker card or voucher. This card has a unique PIN and serial number that you will use to access your results. You can buy your WASSCE results checker card online through authorized vendors. 1. Buy a WASSCE result checker card via https://waecresultschecker.org/.

2. Visit the result checking portal at https://ghana.waecdirect.org/.

3. Enter your Index Number.

4. Re-enter your Index Number to confirm it is correct.

5. Select Examination type (e.g WASSCE School).

6. Select the year of Examination (e.g 2023).

7. Enter the Serial number (e.g 180000000001).

8. Enter Pin (e.g A1B2C3D4E5F9).

9. Click on the captcha.

10. Click on Submit and wait for the popup window to display your results. This may take a few minutes but please wait for your results to load.
